The journey to Shirley's India started in 1995 from our home town of New Rochelle, New York. With a young family to provide for, Shirley and her husband, Abraham started offering catering services from their home. Born and raised in Kerala, the southern part of India, Shirley learned how to make traditional dishes from her mother. When she migrated to America, she continued to make the traditional dishes she learned as young girl and explored cooking with new spices within the Indian cuisine. This is when she found her passion. Her style of “home cooking" gave her a lot of notoriety. This led to storefronts in New Rochelle, New York, a short period in the Bronx, and back to our hometown of New Rochelle in 2012. For the first time in 25 years, Shirley's India closed temporarily March & April of 2020. This was uncertain time for the world, but we used this time to plan the future of Shirley’s India. On Mother’s Day of 2020 we re-opened our kitchen. We have retrained our staff in accordance with New York State Health Department and implemented our “Takeout Initiative”. This includes adding a Pickup Window and offering services like “contact less delivery” and “no contact pickup”. Our “Takeout Initiative” has been very successful and has allowed us to serve new customers all over Westchester. Shirley’s kids are all grown up now, but her commitment to her loyal customers and passion for the cuisine is what drives her today. Our team is very excited with what we have in-store for the future. Thank you for being a part of the journey that is “Shirley’s India”.
