This Spring, NYC H2O is offering Water Ecology and Engineering Field Trips. Our sites include: the Central Park Reservoir, Ridgewood Reservoir in Ridgewood, Queens, Silver Lake in Staten Island, Baisley Pond in Jamaica, Queens, the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx and the High Bridge. We will also have field trips to Lemon Creek and Great Kills in Staten Island, and Plumb Beach in Brooklyn.
Each reservoir site has its own dramatic story of how it supplied the city with drinking water. Other sites show how the city's wetlands and marine life protect it from storm surges. H2O's team of talented field guides engage students in outdoor activities that explain how these reservoirs were built so that the city could grow. Students learn how the parks were built to protect the reservoirs when they get to experience these seldom visited, yet public 'natural' treasures.
