Working in NYC has it's benefits, and being in Queens with its plethora of international dining options, I wanted to enjoy some good Malaysian food. Walking into Taste Good it's obviously a no-nonsense restaurant when it comes to atmosphere; decor is spartan and at best utilitarian. Taste Good's menu is beautiful diverse, offering many Malaysian dishes that can be ordered either as single servings or family style. I was accompany by a friend from work who's never sampled Malaysian food before, so this was a new experience for her. For appetizers I selected three: Roti Canai, Tahu Goreng, and pork Satay Panggang.

The restaurant outside looks not very fancy. The restaurant inside looks just like old fashioned asian fast food restaurant. The cashier is very civil. It's an old lady who cooks. I like this kinda of feeling. The order is kinda slow but they really cooks every order very cautiously. The food are very good and cheap too. You just have to be patient to wait for your order or you can just choose to dine in. They have a lot tables too.

cash only* I've been coming here for years! For those who don't know, this used to be a much smaller spot for the same reliable quality Malaysian food. Let's get to the breakdown: The restaurant - handily located in elmhurst queens, a block away from the train station. Casual, small spot that offers a variety of Malaysian food. The staff is always friendly and there for your needs. It can get packed at times and seating isn't as comfortable due to space. Food - get the curry laksa noodle soup (you can pick the kind of noodles, I typically opt for the "ho fun" or the "wide flat noodle". I also tel them to replace the stuffed pepper with an stuffed eggplant (up to you!). The curry broth is delicious and the whole soup is filling AF!. Taste good house special fried fish cake - comes in slices with a red sweet chili sauce. Great app. For everyone to dig in.

You DO NOT come here for the decor. It's all about the fast, super cheap, super tasty food. I think Malaysian food is good, but I think it falls pretty far on the Asian food fame list. I think the list is as follows: Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Filipino. Malaysian food really does have a Chinese look and feel, but the taste is a mix of Indian, Chinese and Southeast Asian. Also, this place has been open forever but I have only been here several times over the last ten years. The food: Hainanese Chicken Rice- This is a staple dish amongst Southeast Asians, it's a dish that really doesn't blow you away with flavor, it's more about the subtle combination of the chicken, soy and seasoned rice. The version here is very good, the chili sauce is a nice calculation, and the overall dish tastes very homey. Don't forget the yellow chicken rice.

tasty Cheap eats! Cash only! You can eat well with left overs for another day and not risk spoilage. Staffing is pleasant, quick & efficient. We came in hungry and thirsty, after seeing another Yelpers review and chatting it up with her on the longan Fruit drink, a fruit that's new to me, I determined to try the Longan Fruit drink which turned out to be very light, refreshing and perfectly sweetened. The Malaysian Iced Coffee is a standout for deep earthy rich strength. Iced and sweetened just right. So good we ordered another one to take with us on the way back to the hood.

I think I prefer the laksa at Palau Panang, the laksa here lacked a certain depth of flavor and didn't have a ton of shrimp or other toppings either. Most of the dishes are better here, we had: fried chicken wings with pandan, tofu fish cake, roti canai (the curry wasn't hot enough and could have had more chicken in it but the pancake was killer), char kway teow that was a bit whatever and a truthfully stunning version of fried butter shrimp-- probably the best version of that dish I have ever had. Solid place in general with a few really good choices.

Any book by Kevin Kwan is enough to leave anyone craving Singaporean and I was no exemption. Only weeks into finishing Rich People Problems and we made our way to Queens to find the best Hainanese Chicken Rice in NYC - and Taste Good Malaysian Cuisine did not let down. Although a simple restaurant on a side street, TGMC packs a powerful punch. Food pics of each item on the menu (and there is about a 100 of them) line the walls, so ordering is easy yet difficult. Of course the obvious choice first and foremost is Hainanese chicken with a side order of chicken rice. You cannot go wrong.

If you are looking for a super affordable Malaysian restaurant that is authentic, look no further than Taste Good! This place fed two fatties for just $25 with scraps to go because we wanted a meal for later. My go to is the roti canai, lasi nemak, and beef rendang. I'll also toss in the satay chicken, hainanese chicken, really too much to name. So much flavor, so filling and for a fraction of the price compared to NYC restaurants! Do not want to classify this as a hole in the wall, but it is one of those. You aren't going to dine in the most glamorous restaurant, but luckily their service is pretty good. Everything that you assume could happen in an Asian restaurant will almost certainly happen here, but that is true genuineness

This restaurant is pretty authentic in my view. I like the seafood Hor fun with gravy, it has the wok hei taste and the gravy tastes great. Singapore laksa soup is pretty good as well, it does have that coconut curry taste in it. We also tried the fried bean curd in curry soup, which amazingly not of the same soup base as the laksa. I don't quite like the beef rendang here, but that could just be a personal preference.

I was thinking about doing what I typically do and writing a long detailed review of the dishes I ordered and what I thought about each of them. But when I think about this place, I just think about how authentic and high the food excellence is for the price that you pay. It's a real world Hawker center in one restaurant. The place is small and not really glamorous and in 2018 I feel like you should know that it tends to be small and unglamorous places that churn out the best food. No exception here.

I just purchase a few packets of the spice paste to make Singapore Kari Laksa at home. Ive made plenty of coconut based curries in my own kitchen, but never this one. mainly because it incorporates seafood I though it best to try a well-reputed restaurant version to calibrate my tastes and expectations beforehand. Boy am I lucky Taste Good is so close to home! I dropped by during lunchtime one Wednesday afternoon and the place was pretty hopping. Good sign! It's a no frills joint for sure, but the workers were all very nice and inviting in my experience and I had no problems being seated or placing my order.

Very friendly staff, and helpful. This is a BYOB place and the price is fairly reasonably priced. Cash ONLY!!! I had their: Satay (Chicken&Beef) fragrant spicy chicken chicken wings with pandan leave burning fried tofu with shrimp and sauce Spring roll with sauce on top Sambal Squid 3 white rice I brought my own wine and out of all these dishes I like satay and chicken wings with pandan leave the most.

BEST MALAYSIAN FOOD!!! It's a hole in the wall but it's genuine. I come here at least once every 2 weeks. The service is great, the staff is super friendly and jokes around with you. The staff is very honest and let you know if something isn't fresh to order. The food is DELICIOUS!!!! I advise the Singapore Laksa and the hainanese chicken. The price is good as well. I definitely recommend this hole in a wall place if you want authentic Malaysian food!

This place is overwhelming. It's a hole in the wall for sure but the wait staff is nicer than most asian restaurants. The prices are super reasonable particularly for the roti canai which i order practically everytime I come here. I also usually like to get the capitan noodle and the hainese chicken. You're probably going to need to pay for meter parking at this restaurant but when you consider the food prices its well worth it. In general the noodle dishes are better than the rice dishes but all of its pretty dang good.

Order this: Beef Rendang- Curry Beef Brisket, Hainan Chicken (semi), Rotti, Satay and Water Spinach with Belacan. Add noodle dish as preferred. Comfortable, low key place to eat. Recommended.

I was worried about coming here because the most recent reviews seemed to indicate the ownership had changed and the food had suffered, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not too familiar with Malaysian cuisine. I've had it a few times back in California at friends' homes, but have only been to one Malaysian restaurant before. So I might not be the best judge, but I really enjoy my meal here. I went with the Singapore Kari Laksa ($9). What came with a big bowl of thick springy clear noodles that were very satisfying to chew. The broth was flavorful with a nice balance of spice and a mild sweetness from the coconut milk in it. Included were fish cakes, tofu, shredded chicken, and shrimp.

This place is excellence and more! Every dish we ordered were palate pleasing, with just the right amount of spice, but explosion with flavor and depth. I'm not well-versed on Malaysian food, since it seems with SE Asian cuisine, Thai wins out in the popularity contest. However, if this is any indication of what Malaysian food is, I'm deeply sorry at what my tastebuds have been missing all these years! We ordered an array of dishes for 5 people and it was incredibly reasonable with plenty of leftover. Beef Rendang, Char Kway Teow noodles, and Sizzling Bean Curd were absolute crowd favorites, perfectly flavored and excellent over both their chicken or coconut rice. Kari Laksa curry was more sweet than savory and filled with plenty of goodies, while half of a Hainese Chicken was a huge portion to share. The chicken was done well, but not mainly memorable compared to all the other dishes that packed such big flavor profiles.

This is almost certainly as authentic as it gets for Malaysian cuisine. Upon entering, there are pictures of all the dishes plastered on the walls. Everything looked really flavorful. The spice that they used for everything was really good. In particular the beef rendang was very rich. I would skip the fragrant spicy chicken that everyone is raving about in the reviews. I found it not spicy enough and super dry. I was let down at that. The best dish in my opinion was the Singapore noodles. The noodles were the perfect texture. Drinks come in a very large styrofoam cup. Their iced coffee and grass jelly drinks are both pretty good.

There were quite a few similar South East Asian restaurants, but this is the only one that is able to maintain its excellence through all these years. It's small and more often than not packed during peak hours.

let down by the Singapore Kari Laksa. It was very milkey and didn't have much taste. There was also barely any sides in it and was not worth the price point. I would suggest getting the curry noodles with stuffed bean curd instead. The soup also feel oily. I also like getting the Malaysian iced tea but they put too much ice in it.

There are a lot of Malaysian restaurants near this place but they have some of the best food. I got the lasi nemak and the malaysian iced coffee for my lunch break and I was worried I wouldn't have enough time to eat it. However, the food took around 10 minutes to come out. When you get the lasi nemak to go they pack the whole urn with coconut rice, which is way more than they would have given you if you ate at the restaurant. The one disadvantage is the spicy oil from the vegetables get soaked in your rice and turns a quarter of your rice v oily.

Was having dinner with the fam and I was feening for some char kway teow. If you don't know what that is, it's heaven on a plate. Stirred fried flat rice noodles with prawn and hints of spiciness. You should taste the wok when eating it and the soy sauce should taste sweet but not too salty. Nom nom nom! I've been dying to try this place and it is minutes away from my aunts. So aways we went! As someone who is Singaporean descent and has been to Singapore, I would say this is almost as good as the mainland. The flavor are on point and the recipes are not 'Americanized' or reduced in quality because expenses are higher. We had the char kway teow, satay (chicken, pork, and beef), roti, pandan Ayam, sizzling bean curd, and lamb rendang. I absolutely advise the char kway teow because it's the best one I've had in NY

I will always have a soft spot for Taste Good Malaysian because it was the first place that I exposed curry laksa. I've been there twice since then and although the curry laksa is no longer as life-changing, it's still beautiful good. Overall, I think Nyonya is still better for Malaysian food, but Nyonya doesn't have curry laksa ... so Taste Good Malaysian it is. And if you live in Queens, you should definitely check out this gem! + Roti canai (3/5) - If this is on the menu, I will ALWAYS get it. The curry is good, but doesn't have any meat/potato and the roti itself is small and not crunchy.

This is without warning one of best Malaysian restaurants I've tried in the US. The restaurant looks kinda small and ofc not sparking clean whatsoever but that's how you know it's authentic Asian food... My friends and I forever start off with Roti Canai, kinda like a crepe of some sort with curry dipping. Then Pork Satay skewers and man they did it right here. The meat is so tender and doesn't have too much curry smell. Next stop - Haianese Chicken - the meat is fresh and not dried like other places'. Kangkung Balacan without shrimp paste (so just stir fried with garlic) is our go-to. We also ordered two noodle dishes - Crispy Seafood Egg Noodle and Chow Kuay Teow. Both are tasty.

have to order their Singapore Laksa! It is delicious and rich in flavor absolutely heavier on the coconut milk flavor in curry but very tasty. Their hainanese chicken was very tender and juicy! The go-to spot for me when I'm in the area.
