History

Established in 1990.

Jorge and Marla Cornejo opened the 5 Burro Cafe in 1990.  We wanted to fill a niche that we felt was opened on Austin Street.  A fun place where people could eat and drink and feel at home.  We try to maintain the highest standard of quality control while offering a product that is tasty and reasonably priced.  Although the place is small and very crowded, everyone gets a long and a good time is had by one and all!  We love being a part of the Forest Hills community.

Anyone who knows what real Spanish food tastes will be highly dissatisfied. Frozen margaritas were good. Vodka lemonade was mostly just lemonade and ice. I'd say this joint is OVERRATED and the food is MOST definitely HIGH-PRICED!

You have to come here for their margaritas. They're to die for! My favorite is passion fruit with peach...frozen. Their steak is good especially on nachos

We went this evening and was disappointed, very much so. A little contextual. We have been going here for 20 years or so though we have not been here for a year.

This place was ranted about by my friend from Queens so I went with him to try it out. Inappropriately I had to tell him flat out "I've had better." I am a snob for flavor. Inappropriately this place lacked authentic Mexican flavor, at least with the dish I got (vegetarian enchiladas

Solid food. It's good for a nice chill not. Not a fancy one. Ice-covered margaritas are attractive good and you can get a pitcher. Price was is ok, even meal is about $16 or so

One of my preferred places on Austin Street! If you're going, be ready for a wait if you go as soon as they open. This place is small, so there is ALWAYS wait.

Love the margaritas here! The food if good but the drinks are worth the wait and price. No happy hour but I extremely indorse coming in for the jugs of strawberry margaritas

You could call it a taqueria and I don't know what distinguishes it from a cafe. Well-ordered the nachos con carne and the dragged pork tacos with a mechalada.

Amazing vibe certainly a happening place. I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend that was visiting and she enjoyed it very much. Carolina the entertainer was a gem, very sugary and attentive.

Came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too crowded. Yes you have to wait for your entire party to arrive no substance what, my best friend and I were to come on one more friend to complete the pack

Mediocre overpriced "Mexican" food. Ridiculously small restaurant, unfriendly facility. No music unless superstar pays the juke box.

Hands down the best Mexican food this side of Queens! Living in the neighborhood is no brainer to stop by for lunch or dinner. We love it here! FYI- it gets jammed packed Friday-Sunday

The quesadilla and Mexican rice was delicious! Like honestly the best I've ever had. The snacks were also nice and robust. We were seated right away because it was 11 at nightly on a Monday

Delightful except I didn't like the snacks. Best nachos and lobster quesadilla I have ever had.

Small spot that tends to get packed at night. But good things come to those who wait, right? True Mexican food, good prices, and great margaritas. I'm a fan.

I came here with 4 other people last stay. it was my first time here and it had dressed reviews on yelp. All was fine with the food and wait staff until we requested for the check.

Same as it ever was. I used to go here a lot, and I mean ALOT, in the early 1990's, when I was a younger man. I had tons, TONS, of the little malleable collectibles they would place in the frozen margaritas back in the day.

Listen this place has a ton of reviews so I'm just going to throw mine on the pile. Busy spot. Had about 45 minute wait for a seat on Sat night, which is lucky since others were being told 1.5 hours. Reservationist (is that even the term idk might have made it up) who helped get a table was composed and shows the spot is probably like this on the daily. Handled a few influences, a ton of groups going in and out and etc

I've had this place bookmarked for ages. I've been meaning to go but I'm always bookmarking a zillion new restaurants this got buried in the list. Lastly got to go. Good for you Waheda. You didn't leave Burrio behindhand

Love this place. I have been going there for about 16 years. ( That must be a hint). I do not write many reviews but I feel I essential to put my two cents in. Where to begin

I went to this restaurant with high prospects based on the local newsgroup reference. The result of my visit? Underwhelming

I randomly tripped across 5 burro while looking for somewhat to eat in the area. What drew me in was the 72oz pitcher of margarita! I'm a sucker for margaritas! Well I'm a sucker for whatever alcoholic, to be wholly honest

The bar is limited, the food is decent. If you want authentic Mexican food full of natural tastes this is NOT the place. If you are starving, it will do the job. After a few drinks it might taste better haha.
